EVENTS FOR 1987 Pre present Alumni Association

* "Lamar High School was established in1936. Earlier the Southampton Civic Club attempted to persuade Houston ISD to build Lamar at a lot along Kirby and West Alabama; the attempt failed and Lamar was built across from River Oaks. [7] (History of the Southampton Civic Club)…"

Lamar High School opened in September, 1937, before Westheimer Road was a paved street. The school was named for Mirabeau B. Lamar "Father of Education" for the State of Texas and second President of the Republic of Texas. Emulating the high standards established by the school's namesake, students at Lamar have received recognition for outstanding achievement in many fields. Successful Lamar alumni participate in all areas of community life as active contributing citizens.

The 50th School Anniversary Reunion which took place on the Lamar School Campus (mostly on the front lawn) with many many Alumni, students, parents, teachers, administrators, friends, sponsors, and others was a very GRAND gathering with a HUGE attendance.

This 50th Anniversary event was put on by many Volunteer Alumni and Parents (and others) before the present Alumni Association was founded.  The remaining Funds from the event were used to create the "Friends of Lamar" organization which is now working in concert with the Alumni Association.
