Permanent Standing Committees

ALUMNI LUNCHEON COMMITTEE

Plans annual Distinguished Alumni Luncheon. Determines honorees and finds underwriters.
Develops video program and written program. Develops mailing list, creates invitations. Works with teachers, administrators, and students to create a program and to showcase the students and accomplishments of Lamar. Selects venue, food, and decorations.

BIG RED RUN COMMITTEE

Plans annual Big Red Run event. Finds sponsors to underwrite costs, creates designs for printed material and t-shirts, and selects professionals with which to work. Organizes alumni and PTO volunteers, teachers and students to put on the event.

BUILDINGS & GROUNDS IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE

Works with Lamar's Principal, Alumni Board and PTO to determine projects for improvements at the school. Works with architects or planners to determine design and cost of various projects. Finds underwriters to pay for projects. Works with contractors to complete the projects.

INFORMATION RESOURCES (WEBSITE/DATABASE) COMMITTEE

Works to continually update and maintain the database, website and ecommunications so as to have accurate information for the association and the classes and a modern, cost efficient communication medium. Selects companies or programs to use to solicit or maintain the database information. Works with publishing companies when publishing the Alumni Directory every five years. Works to develop an interesting, informative, and responsive website for the organization. Develops new methods for soliciting donations via the internet. Provides classes with access so that they can use the website to stay in touch with their classmates.

DEVELOPMENT & INVESTMENTS COMMITTEE

Plans projects for solicitation of funds for the long term and short term financial needs of the Alumni Association and the school. Develops a management plan for investing funds set aside by the Association and manages such fund.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Develops plans for increasing membership in the Alumni Association. Sets membership fees. Contacts class representatives to develop ideas for increasing membership.

NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE

Publishes two or more newsletters each year. Contacts alumni, administrators, teachers, and students to develop content. Sells advertising to underwrite the cost of the newsletter. Works with graphic artists and writers to produce the newsletter.

CLASS OUTREACH/ REUNIONS COMMITTEE

Works with reunion classes to help plan their reunions. Provides information and suggestions for planning. Provides database information.  Develops plan to increase awareness of the alumni association with all of the classes.

SCHOLARSHIPS & ENDOWMENTS COMMITTEE

Manages the association's scholarship and teacher and faculty excellence awards programs. Develops & manages the association's scholarships and awards program for students, teachers and administrators. Seeks funds to underwrite the association's scholarship and  awards funds. Solicits applications from seniors, faculty and administration each year (or as directed) and selects recipients. Presents winners with scholarships at the annual Distinguished Alumni Luncheon.

 

Ad Hoc Committees
(To be terminated when their special purposes are achieved)

AUDITORIUM CHAIRS COMMITTEE

Develops a fund raising program: budget, pricing, pairing, mounting, storing, marketing, etc., to sell Lamar's old wooden auditorium chairs, 'a piece of Lamar'. Develops a fund raising program: budget, seat pricing by location, accommodation of previously 'promised' naming rights associated with certain donors to the Capital Campaign, to sell 'naming rights' for the new auditorium chairs.

AUDITORIUM DEDICATION COMMITTEE

Plans the upcoming Auditorium Dedication Event to honor the donors. Develops a budget for the event. Finds underwriters for the event. Works with students, teachers and administration to develop the program. Gets alumni involved.

BIG RED MASCOT COMMITTEE

Works with the administration and students to determine design of new mascot. Selects artists and finds sponsors to underwrite costs.


Committee Membership

A principal goal of the Alumni Association in establishing a committee organization structure is to focus the efforts and gain greater contributions of its Board Members in specific areas designated as committees. It will also allow the board to open certain activities to others interested in assisting the board, including Lamar alumni, students, parents and faculty, in areas of their special or targeted interests. Each committee will be chaired by an Alumni Board member but can include in its membership other board members, alumni, students, parents and faculty.

Volunteers for the above committees.

The Alumni Association welcomes volunteers for the above committees.  Qualifications are: that you must be a currently paid member of the Association and have a desire and willingness to commit to spend time on one or more of the committees following the direction of the Chairperson(s).  
        To volunteer please submit (by eMail or snail mail) Your name, the committee(s) that you wish to volunteer on and a note as to why you believe that you can be helpful on that (those) committees.  Should you have special qualifications that will be helpful please make a note of those qualifications (i.e., Sales background, Professional education such as CPA, Lawyer, Architect, Landscape Designer, Computer, Artist, Printer, Copywriter, just a good "networking" person or just a good and dedicated worker etc.)
