TALKING POINTS ABOUT THE 

LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

• Raised $2.5 million for improvements to the school.  These included:

                           - converting the auditorium to a 21st century performance hall with 1000 new seats, sound, lights, video, stage, etc

                           - purchasing a 9' concert grand Steinway piano for the music program

                           - donating an 80' greenhouse to the new horticulture program

                           - creating a new softball field

                           - cleaning the front of the building

                           - planting new grass in front of the auditorium with an irrigation system 

                           - creating an endowment for future improvements

• Produced two major entertainment events starring Tommy Tune which were attended by several thousand alumni and which raised funds for school improvements.
• Built a $150,000 sports building for the use of all sports, which includes bathrooms accessible for after school sporting events
• Sponsors an annual Distinguished Alumni Luncheon at the River Oaks Country Club which honors graduates who have made significant contributions to their fields of law, business, politics, sports, the community and the arts.
• Created the Hope Scholarhship program which awards graduating seniors with $1,000 scholarships for each year that they remain in college.  (There are now 17 students in college with the scholarship and we have had the initial six graduate.)
• Sponsored a 60th and 70th Anniversary Event for the school and plans to have a wonderful 75th Anniversary Event.
• Donated $100,000 worth of computers to the school during its first Technology Initiative
• Purchased furniture for the new Coffeeshop/Tutoring Center in the library.
• Sponsored three Big Red 5K events, purchased equipment for teachers and coaches, trimmed all the oak trees on the campus,irrigated the front lawn and planted crepe myrtles.  
• Maintains a website and database for all alumni, assists with reunions, publishes a newsletter and directory, researches lost alumni and archives historical items.
• Future goals include installing new fencing, renovating the courtyard, increasing scholarships, improving the sports fields, the FFA barn and the culinary arts program.
